Washington's Farewell Address 1796

Read Article →
I love the last two paragraphs of George Washington's farewell address in 1796:

"Though, in reviewing the incidents of my administration, I am unconscious of intentional error, I am nevertheless too sensible of my defects not to think it probable that I may have committed many errors. Whatever they may be, I fervently beseech the Almighty to avert or mitigate the evils to which they may tend. I shall also carry with me the hope that my country will never cease to view them with indulgence; and that, after forty five years of my life dedicated to its service with an upright zeal, the faults of incompetent abilities will be consigned to oblivion, as myself must soon be to the mansions of rest.

Relying on its kindness is this as in other things, and actuated by that fervent love towards it, which is so natural to a man who views in it the native soil of himself and his progenitors for several generations, I anticipate with pleasing expectation that retreat in which I promise myself to realize, without alloy, the sweet enjoyment of partaking, in the midst of my fellow-citizens, the benign influence of good laws under a free government, the ever-favorite object of my heart, and the happy reward, as I trust, of our mutual cares, labors and dangers."

What I love.

Some of the things I love are:
  • Sunlight on Saturday mornings.  Mostly because I don't really get to enjoy the mornings during the week - I'm usually rushing out of the house to go to work.  Saturday mornings are great because I'm not required to be anywhere.  I can stay in bed as long as I want or grab brunch with a friend - the options are infinite!
  • The American Revolution.  It's such a fascinating time in history.  I've always loved history, but my obsession with the American Revolution was ignited after hearing about "Hamilton" the musical and listening to the cast recording for two months straight.

Have you ever experienced really great customer service?  Well, I have a story to share with you!

I purchased Glossier's Perfecting Skin Tint in the light shade a couple of months ago or more accurately put, it was an early birthday present from my mom.  I was looking forward to getting my skin tint in 5-7 business days, but that didn't happen.  It took forever for Glossier to ship it to me because they were waiting to get a new batch of skin tints.  When I contacted customer service about this issue, they apologized within a few hours and gave me $5 store credit AND refunded the full amount of the skin tint.  But, there's more - can you believe it??

Well, this week - I got an email from Glossier that went like this:

Hi there,

We’re reaching out because you recently purchased one of our most popular products—Perfecting Skin Tint—in the Light or Medium shade. We noticed that some tints from this most recent batch have gradually darkened over time. This may not have happened to yours, in which case you should keep using it—either way it is totally safe. If you do notice some change in color, we are sorry. This is a fairly common issue with skin-toned makeup, but should never be a problem for Glossier products. We want you to have the correct shade—always.
We’re working with our new factory to optimize production of future batches so that this doesn’t happen again. When the new batch is in (a couple of months from now), we’re sending you a new bottle free of charge.
We know you’d waited previously for your shade in the Perfecting Skin Tint to restock, and we want to apologize for this new delay. Thank you for having such patience with our tints! We are doing everything we can to make sure that you get the high-quality product you deserve. To help bide the time, we’ve sent you a set of our masks (the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack and Moisturizing Moon Mask), which you should receive soon.
Please hang in there with us as we perfect our Perfecting Skin Tint!
Sincerely,
Team Glossier
So, I'm getting a whole new bottle of the Perfecting Skin Tint + the Mega Greens Galaxy Pack and Moisturizing Moon Mast free of charge!  What??!!  This kind of thing never happens, so I just wanted to share about it on my blog.  Thank you for being wonderful, Glossier. You rock. I will be loyal to you - forever and always.

Spotlight.

Read Article →

When people casually say, "Hey, your movie Spotlight won for Best Picture at the Oscars yesterday" while I'm eating lunch, it makes me smile.  I obviously didn't have anything to do with the movie, other than talking about it nonstop with almost everyone I knew.  But, when people say my movie won at the Oscars - it means I've done my job (well). Yay for the entire cast and crew!

1. Hamilton | I've been listening to the Hamilton cast recording non-stop for weeks now and the truth is, I can't get myself to listen to anything else.  Is this what it's like to be on drugs??  I am absolutely obsessed.  This musical has inspired me to read Alexander Hamilton's biography by Ron Chernow HERE. Birthday present maybe?  Actually...fly me to New York to see Hamilton on Broadway, that would be the perfect birthday gift.

2. Glossier | It's my favorite beauty brand right now.  I'm anxiously waiting to get the priming moisturizer and perfecting skin tint in the mail.  Thank you for the early birthday gift!  I'm actually running low on moisturizer, so it's the perfect replacement + the skin tint will give me a nice, dewy glow (something I always strive for).  NEVER take your skin for granted or your youth!  I now understand why evil villains in movies try to suck the youth from children - it makes total sense.

3. 11.22.63 | The name of Stephen King's best-selling novel about a time traveler who attempts to stop President John F. Kennedy's assassination, but also the title of a new eight-part miniseries on Hulu starring James Franco.  I like the show so far and it has inspired me to read King's novel after I read Alexander Hamilton.  So many books to read!  You see, an Amazon giftcard is really the best present for someone like me.  Teehee.

4. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Part I & II |  A new Harry Potter book, you say?  Yessssss!!!!  Pre-order it HERE.  It's the first story that will be presented on stage in London.  Whatttt, you say?  Yes, that's right.  Anyone want to fly to London in July for this epic moment in history?
